Kids Need More Art’s series classes help to promote a well-balanced art education for young children through the creative process.  We are pleased to introduce our new mini summer class sets for elementary ages designed to help keep young artists creative over the summer months!

The Art of Sculpture

Children of all ages love to build and construct.  Young artists are introduced to the fascinating and fun media of three-dimensional art as they create sculptures from a variety of materials including, but not limited to: paper, wood, clay, styrofoam, and recycled/found objects.

The Art of Manga

Manga is the Japanese word for comics or printed cartoons.  This class goes beyond the familiar characters with big, shiny eyes and funky hair and delves into the fantastical, whimsical styles of manga.  Students will develop skills typical of realistic drawing (e.g. depicting light, shadow, coloring, line and tone quality, foreshortening, and perspective), but with a twist.  Emphasis will be placed on character and concept development.

NOTE:  This class series is best suited for artists with previous Manga class experience.

Young artists will work with paper, and even make their own paper, while creating a variety of two and three-dimensional art forms from sculptures, to paper weaves, to paper mache projects and more!

Trash to Treasures:  Recycled Art

Every object an artist sees has the potential to be the next masterpiece, even if that object was discarded as trash.  Young artists are challenged to use their imagination, creativity, and vision in making the ultimate mixed media masterpieces using everyday objects.  Join us to paint, sculpt, and transform trash into treasured works of art.

Learn a lifetime skill while creating fun and useful decorative, artistic, and fashionable projects!  Young artists will explore the art of sewing through hands on instruction that will introduce the sewing machine, while working on a variety of engaging projects that will help teach techniques and build skill level over the course of the class.

The Art of Cartooning

From animation to comics, illustration, and more, few types of drawing are as much fun as cartooning!  Young artists will explore the many different forms of cartoons while learning the drawing skills they need to create their own cartoon characters.  Emphasis will be placed on both character and concept development.

POP Art

Young artists will explore the art movement that emerged in the 1950s that focuses on popular culture. Master artists Andy Warhol, Yayoi Kusama, Claes Oldenburg, and Roy Lichtenstein will guide our understanding of pop art’s intricacies with their interpretation of advertising, news, comic books, and everyday cultural objects.
