Kids Need More Art’s series classes help to promote a well-balanced art education for young children through the creative process.  We are pleased to introduce our new mini summer class sets for elementary ages designed to help keep young artists creative over the summer months!

Jewelry Explosion

Are you the next fashion jewelry sensation?  This class will explore the basics and beyond with beadwork for wearable jewelry with bracelets, necklaces, earrings and more!  Let’s have blast learning fun ways to design with wild wire and awesome metallic bead wrapping.

The Art of Sewing

Learn a lifetime skill while creating fun and useful decorative, artistic, and fashionable projects!  Young artists will explore the art of sewing through hands on instruction that will introduce the sewing machine, while working on a variety of engaging projects that will help teach techniques and build skill level over the course of the class.

Get together with paint, collage, pastel, photographs, charcoal, crayon, and found objects for an afternoon of crazy fun with art!  Discover how the many mediums of art can come together to create texture, pattern, and value in one of the most popular art forms.

My Art, My Way, My Life is in 3D

Like getting both hands involved in your art making?  Do you like getting messy with creating your art?  Does having your art stand up, stand alone, or be viewed from every direction sound good to you?  If you have answered yes to these questions than you may be a sculptor!  In this 3D mixed Media Class explores creating plaster Mandalas, clay wild animals, and paper mache masks.

The Art of Manga

Manga is the Japanese word for comics or printed cartoons.  This class goes beyond the familiar characters with big, shiny eyes and funky hair and delves into the fantastical, whimsical styles of manga.  Students will develop skills typical of realistic drawing (e.g. depicting light, shadow, coloring, line and tone quality, foreshortening, and perspective), but with a twist.  Emphasis will be placed on character and concept development.

NOTE:  This class series is suitable for artists with NO previous Manga class experience.

Ways of Watercolors

Soft hues and subtle colors that seem to glow with light are what make watercolor such an amazing media in art.  Some of the world’s most beloved works of art were painted in watercolor, and many of the master artists created works in watercolor.  Young artists will explore the world of painting with watercolors as they learn the techniques that master artists use to take their art to the next level.  From different brush types to application, discover how turn an ordinary brush stroke into an extraordinary one to unlock the beauty of watercolors.

Textiles, Fabric, and Weaving OH MY!

Swing into the string filled world of fabric and textiles! Young artists will explore 3D Botswana style wrapped baskets, geometric pattern yarn weavings, as well as building SOFTIES (soft sculptures) mixed media textiles that make your imagination come to life!  Have some 2D fun with texture collage—layering a variety of string, fabric and yarn, alternative textile printmaking, art journaling, drawing with stitches, and our Florida connection with St. Augustine pocket embroidery.
